Workshops are informative and entertaining rituals of Aboriginal culture for students of all ages. Students become actively involved in the workshops and learn an extensive amount of Aboriginal culture and history. 

 

Workshop topics available: 

 

  • Traditional Dancing -  Students learn about traditional and contemporary Aboriginal dance and learn some Aboriginal dance for participation with the Thullii Dancers! 
  • Basket Weaving - Students will learn about traditional basket weaving with an expereinced        weaver, they will get hands on expereince and take home thier creations!
  • Aboriginal art -Art workshops are fun, creative and educational. Students will learn about traditional Aboriginal symbols, Aboriginal art & stories and do thier own creative works, with options of painting     on paper or boomerangs to take home.
  • Boomerang throwing -Learn how to throw a Boomerang! Learn the hunting story of the boomerang and have loads of fun!
  • Story telling -Traditional Aboriginal story telling is thousands of years old that have been passed down through many generations. Stories of creation, respect, sharing, caring, looking after the land and much more!
  • Jewellery making -Traditional and contemporary jewellery making is fun and exciting, with students being able to make earrings or necklaces or bracelets to keep.
  • Ochres & body painting -Students will learn about ochres, where it comes from, what it is used for, how it is used, different colours body painting, the meanings of body painting and how it is done. They will also crush some ochre and have their face painted with ochre.
  • Traditional Artefacts & Weaponry -Students will be excited about the huge range of traditional artefacts that we have for display and touching. Students will learn about traditional methods of making artefacts, hunting, punishment and lore.
  • Bush Tucker Workshops -Students will learn about native plants, medicinal uses, native foods, herbs and spices, how native food is used and cooked in todays life. Workshops include samples of native plants, herbs & spices, sauces & native jams. They will also enjoy a sample of damper with jam!

 

At the completion of the day's workshop, the Thullii dancers will entertain students and staff with a performance where students will also participate and perform dances learnt throughout the workshops.

Pre - school/day care & vacation care centre workshops 

 

Thullii Dreaming offers cultural workshops and activities to the wider community for events, festival, fetes or whatever the occasion might be, where People of all ages can get hands on experience and gain relevant information about Aboriginal culture and history. Workshops are interactive and are tailored to suit students of all ages. With over 500 different tribes in Australia, you can never learn too much of Aboriginal culture, as all tribes are different. Thullii Dreaming is of the Ngemba tribe North West NSW and is committed to promoting and educating the Wider community about Aboriginal culture in New South Wales.

 

Workshop Activities:

 

    Artefacts Display & Cultural Talk: Demonstration and talk of traditional weaponry, Didjeridu,  Aboriginal life – traditional and contemporary.

    Aboriginal Art: Children can participate with some Aboriginal art, dot painting, sandpainting or stencil colouring in. We are also able to provide boomerangs for the children to paint & Keep

  • Traditional Dance: Students will be enticed with learning about Aboriginal dance, learning about why, where & when Aboriginal dance occurs, ochres and body painting, the meanings and reasons behind body designs, colours of ochres and dancing grounds. The audience will participate in learning some Aboriginal dances.

  • Didjeridu & Dreamtime Stories: Students will learn about the didjeridu, sounds, stories and meanings of the didjeridu.

  • Face Painting, Ochres & Body Painting: Traditional and contemporary styles of face painting with bright colours. Also traditional face designs using ochres for dancing and celebrations.
